About
Fluid in definition, bonded by an intention to operate in other places outside the traditional art gallery systems, Other Places art fair (OPaf) features participants presenting site-specific booths encapsulating their projects and programming. Representing the growing movement of hard to define art project spaces, OPaf provides a custom art fair structure designed specifically for these unconventional projects.
OPaf 2019 is a two day event taking place on March 2 & 3, 2019 in San Pedro, California.
Support for OPaf graciously provided by otherplaces.la, Angels Gate Cultural Center, Topo Chico Agua Mineral, Carol Vena-Mondt, and Flying Goat Coffee.
Location
Battery Leary-Merriam at Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, California has been selected as the ideal setting for OPaf. In constant transformation since 1916, the site is a decommissioned U.S Army battery overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Originally constructed as a single two-gun emplacement, the battery was converted into a defense command post and subsequently a NIKE missile launch site until 1976.
Battery Leary-Merriam provides an equally dynamic and neutral space for participants to interact with. Participants can utilize trees, tunnels, roof tops, small concrete nooks, grassy hillsides, and the history of the site itself for their spaces.
